FISHERS MEMORIAL SHIRT

The Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic in Lunenburg hired me to develop a commemorative t-shirt for their staff to wear on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Fisher's Memorial Service - an annual recognition and remembrance of the lives lost at sea in service of the fishing trade. Wreaths are an important part of this tradition; every year a group of vessels heads out to sea and casts wreaths into the ocean as part of the service, so I wrote the rhyming verse on the back and encircled the artwork with a vintage wreath illustration as was similarly used in early advertising for the event from the 1920's. The shirt is now available for purchase in the Museum gift shop, and all proceeds from sales are donated to the Lunenburg Fishermen's Memorial Society for the upkeep and maintenance of the Lunenburg Fishermen’s Monument, dedicated to the fishers and vessels lost at sea.
